Recreation and Culture

bearberrySundre offers a rich and varied selection of opportunities for residents and visitors to get involved in.  Not only is there plenty of sports and recreation you will also find a selection of arts & culture and numerous volunteer groups that you can involve yourself in.

Sports activities include swimming and fitness; hockey, skating & curling; baseball, softball & slow-pitch programs & leagues; soccer, rodeo, tennis and skateboarding.  Much like everywhere, minor hockey and soccer are extremely popular with the kids, but participation in dance programs is just as high, and kids can also choose martial arts, figure skating, gymnastics, 4-H, or various library programs and school-based clubs.  Our town's beautiful location provides a great natural setting for excellent walking trails, along with fishing and other river activities like canoeing or kayaking.

Many other options are also available to both kids & adults through a wide range of clubs and organizations.  Gardening, performing and visual arts, historical and agricultural are just some of the other interests represented through such groups.  As well, there are Sundre chapters of service organizations such as Elks, Lions and the Legion.  For contact information to various organizations, click here.

One of Sundre's greatest recreational assets is its proximity to "the West Country" - the Rocky Mountain foothills that rise just outside our back door.  Nature and outdoor lovers of every stripe have almost any type of nature-based recreation they want at their fingertips.  Whether you want a picnic or a wilderness camping trip, a wade in a creek or some white-water kayaking, an afternoon stroll or a multi-day back-country hike, photography, bird-watching, trail riding, or exploring with your ATV  ... "recreation" and "leisure" have a whole new meaning a half-hour from town.
