Intersection 990 Improvements

Intersection 990 Construction Update – August 28, 2026

Crews are making good progress on the intersection construction. Below is a look at the recent progress as well as what to expect in the near future.

Completion remains on track for the end of October, pending weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Progress to date:

     ·  Stripped topsoil in the northwest corner and hauled the material away.

  • Work continued with placing fill for the road embankments.
  • Sawcut roadway and removed asphalt by the westbound Highway 27 lane.

What’s coming next:

  • Place clay fills in the northwest section.
  • Form the splitter islands and the concrete works for the roundabout. (Splitter islands guide the traffic movements in the roundabout.)
  • Install the bridge culvert.

Thank you for continuing to drive carefully and for your patience through the busy construction season.

Highway 27 plays a key role in supporting the growth and development of several central Alberta communities. As part of the upgrades along Highway 27, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) is constructing a dual lane roundabout at the Highway 27/22/584/Range Road 54 (10th Street) intersection.

Construction began in July and the anticipated completion date for the project is October 30, 2026, weather dependent.

Access to adjacent businesses will be maintained at all times.

Motorists are reminded to obey posted signage, follow traffic control measures, and use caution when travelling through the construction zone.

Work completed or underway to date includes:

  • Installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control measures.
  • Implementation of traffic accommodation measures to safely move motorists through the construction area including temporary detour and lightings.
  • Removal and stockpiling of topsoil within the northeast quadrant of the intersection.
  • Hauling and placement of material to construct the new roadway embankments on the east and north sides of the intersection.
  • Water diversion work to prepare for construction of the new bridge culvert.
  • Streetlight removals.

Upcoming work includes:

  • Continued hauling and placement of material in the northeast quadrant of the intersection.
  • Ground preparation in the northwest quadrant for construction of the new bridge culvert.
  • Placement of granular base course to begin preparing the new roadway along the north and east roundabout approaches.
  • Installation of streetlighting infrastructure.
  • Concrete work for the new roundabout splitter islands.
  • Removal of Town picnic tables and signage in the southeast quadrant of the intersection.
